ROSACEA
What
is Rosacea?
ROSACEA is a chronic skin condition that presents itself mostly
on the face. It usually starts after the age of 30 with facial
redness that frequently comes and goes. Over the time, if
untreated, visible blood vessels, bumps, and pimples develop.
In severe cases extra red tissue may appear on the nose (so
called rhinophyma) that may give a "drunken" appearance.
Rosacea is more frequent in women, but the more severe cases
are usually seen in men. Symptoms can be exacerbated by sun
or cold exposure, spicy food, alcohol and other triggers.
There is no cure for rosacea and the cause is not known. However,
medical treatment can control this condition and prevent permanent
skin damage as well as embarrassing rednes.
What can New You do for you?
It's important to avoid triggering factors when treating rosacea.
Appropriate cosmetics and topical medications are essential
in most cases. Some patients require oral antibiotics for
several months. Photofacials or laser treatments are also
very effective - they can minimize redness and eliminate broken
blood vessels. Don't wait until your condition leads to permanent
