LIPOSUCTION
About
Liposuction
Liposuction is the most frequently requested cosmetic surgery.
If done under local anesthesia, it is completely safe and
virtually painless. Tumescent liposuction was introduced in
1985 by Dr. Jeffery Klein- a dermatologist from California.
Tumescent solution is used to number the treated body area
and micro-cannula suction out fat. This technique is by far
the safest liposuction method available today. It reduces
complications, minimizes pain and bleeding, and provides smoother
and more natural looking results.
Dr. Danek learned the tumescent liposuction method from the
pioneers of the procedure. She never uses general anesthesia
and there is no need for an overnight hospital stay. Our patients
generally go back to work in 2-3 days.
Who is a Candidate?
Anybody who is over the age of 18 is a good candidate for
the procedure, provided that they are in good health. If that
description applies to you, and you are interested in a safe,
effective, and affordable way to lose unwanted fat, call Dr.
Danek today to schedule a free consultation!
Types
of Liposuction
• Tumescent awake liposuction:
Based on filling the fat area with a dilute solution of local
anesthetic and other medications. This allows the surgeon
to perform this painless and safe procedure with rapid recovery.
• Laser Tuck:
This procedure pairs tumescent liposuction with an internal
laser that heats up the underside of the skin which leads
to immediate skin contraction.
Does the Fat Come Back?
NO! Once destroyed, the fat cells never grow back. However,
we encourage patients to exercise and have a healthy diet
in order to keep the entire body in shape.
Benefits
of Tumescent Liposuction Under Local Anesthesia
• This is by far the safest method of liposuction available
today
• Less bleeding and pain made possible through the use
of tumescent solution
• Fewer skin irregularities because the patient is awake
and is able to sit or stand at the end of the procedure, which
allows the surgeon to better see the results and provide additional
suction is necessary
• Faster recovery
• Less expensive than liposuction done under general
anesthesia because patients can save on the costs associated
with general anesthesia as well as hospital stays during recovery
What Happens Before Liposuction?
Medical history is gathered and a physical is given to the
patient. Also, lab tests are performed to assure that the
patient’s general health is good and that the procedure
will be entirely safe. Detailed consultation regarding the
procedure, alternatives, risks, and benefits is provided.
Then, several days before the liposuction, the patient is
given a prescription for medications required to be taken
before the procedure.
What Happens on the Day of the Liposuction?
The patient must have someone available to drive them to and
from the procedure. 4-5 hours are required for the entire
procedure. The body areas which are to be treated are marked
in a standing position and “before” pictures are
taken. Then, the tumescent anesthesia is provided. Patients
are encouraged to bring their favorite music to listen to
during the procedure. After the fat tissue is soaked with
tumescent solution, the liposuction is preformed with tiny
cannulas.
What happens after Liposuction?
At the end of the procedure, the patient is dressed up in
a compression garment which promotes healing and skin contraction.
Absorbent pads are applied to the skin to soak up the expected
drainage of the next 24 to 48 hours. The patient is able to
eat and walk immediately after the surgery. Some discomfort
is expected, but tumescent anesthesia makes the pain minimal.
Pain medication may be taken- Tylenol is usually sufficient.
Most patients can return to work in 2 to 3 days and can resume
exercise in about 1 to 2 weeks.
A follow up appointment is scheduled a week following the
liposuction during which the treated area is examined and
Dr. Danek makes sure that the recovery is occurring without
any irregularities. Finally, 6 weeks after the procedure,
the patient arrives for a final appointment in which the “after”
pictures are taken and satisfaction is sure to felt by Dr.
Danek, the staff, and most importantly, the patient.
